About Pacific Cycle Tours

Pacific Cycle Tours is a family-owned New Zealand tour company providing outstanding hiking and cycling tours for the past 25 years.  The business focusses on small group, excellent value tours with personalised service. When you travel with Pacific Cycle Tours you can expect a stress free, once in a life time experience in the land of the long white cloud.

The business is run by team Brett Green and Judy Jamieson-Green.

Challenges measuring their footprint

Pacific Cycle Tours had been searching for a robust solution to measure their carbon footprint but found existing tools complicated and lacking accuracy.

“We wanted to implement a carbon offset program for some time, but we didn’t have the knowledge, time and capability to implement one ourselves. We tried a few carbon calculators online but they seemed too high-level and only based on a few inputs. They didn’t seem robust enough to give an accurate estimation.”

Finding the right solution

Brett and Judy discovered CarbonInvoice through a Rocketspark newsletter, which led them to sign up for the service. The onboarding process was seamless, with CarbonInvoice’s software integrating directly into their Xero accounting file to provide an accurate, detailed assessment of their carbon footprint. Brett was pleasantly surprised by the precision, stating, “I thought it’d be way more high level, but you look at individual transactions.” Within minutes, Pacific Cycle Tours was able to start offsetting their carbon footprint by funding the planting of native trees in New Zealand. “You hit a sweet spot. We just don’t have the time! You made it so easy.”

Since July 2024 Pacific Cycle Tours have been partnered with CarbonInvoice. They’ve measured their footprint and planted 56 native trees - see their progress.

How Pacific Cycle Tours is benefiting

Promoting environmental responsibility is crucial to Pacific Cycle Tours brand. “We’re a tourism company: we use a lot of fuel, sometimes we can’t get our clients to where they need because of climate events. People want to know they’re at least working with a provider that does it’s part for the planet”.

Maintaining a responsible, eco-friendly image is vital for Pacific Cycle Tours, especially as a small group, excellent value tour company where clients pay for exclusive experiences. Many of their clientele are international, for example German tourists who are particularly environmentally conscious. By demonstrating that their tours leave a positive footprint in New Zealand through initiatives like tree planting, Pacific Cycle Tours is strengthening their appeal to this market.

For Brett and Judy the partnership with CarbonInvoice isn’t just about business; it's about doing the right thing. They acknowledge the global environmental crisis and feel a moral responsibility to act.

"Maintaining a responsible image is crucial for us—our clients want to leave a positive footprint in New Zealand."
