About RECOR

RECOR is a young, fast-growing, multi-discipline engineering and project management consultancy based in Noosa, Queensland Australia with offices in Brisbane, regional locations in northern New South Wales, and Adelaide. Led by co-founder and Director Mark Poynter, RECOR specializes in civil and structural engineering, project management and renewable energy.

RECOR’s client base spans local governments, infrastructure projects, construction, and the built environment. The company’s founding mission is to create sustainable, lasting benefits through their work.

Challenges finding a simple solution

RECOR’s central focus is sustainability, and they wanted to align their internal policies with the same mission they bring to their clients. However, as a growing company, implementing a comprehensive system to measure and reduce their carbon footprint seemed overwhelming.

Mark wanted a solution which could easily measure and track RECOR’s environmental impact. While he knew the business was low impact relative to businesses with more complex supply chains, he also knew RECOR has a footprint and needed to measure it.

Mark Poynter explained, “CarbonInvoice was our first foray into implementing an external system to achieve a policy outcome we were trying to achieve.” RECOR needed a simple, scalable solution to measure their carbon impact and act on it in a meaningful way.

The solution

RECOR partnered with CarbonInvoice to integrate carbon tracking and offsetting into their daily operations. This allowed them to automatically measure their carbon footprint and offset it by funding tree planting projects around Australia.

“For us, coming to work and thinking that, hey, we work for a company that has just planted 170 trees is really tangible,” said RECOR’s Marketing Manager, Caitlyn. “It’s important for our team to feel that we’re part of something bigger, especially when we think about the future for our children.”

The integration of CarbonInvoice was simple and had an immediate impact on RECOR’s operations. Every invoice sent to clients now included a message about their carbon offset contributions, strengthening client relationships. As Caitlyn noted, “For our clients to be receiving an invoice that indicates, ‘this is the impact we’ve created just through our partnership with you,’ is really important. It builds trust, transparency, and a sense that we’re all working toward a bigger goal.”

Since February 2024 their partnership with CarbonInvoice, RECOR has been able to effortlessly measure their carbon footprint, take meaningful action through tree planting, and communicate these efforts effectively to clients and their broader professional network. See their progress here.

Benefits

By partnering with CarbonInvoice, RECOR has not only been able to meet their sustainability goals internally but has also leveraged these efforts to enhance their brand in the marketplace.

The visibility of their tree planting contributions helps clients see RECOR’S commitment to the environment in a tangible way. “CarbonInvoice is key across a number of touchpoints—client relationships, trust, transparency, and even in our marketing strategy,” said Caitlyn.

Mark shared about an internal team meeting “Last week when we had our last quarterly team meeting, we actually pulled up our profile and said, look we've planted 170 plus trees in the three months that we've been engaged with CarbonInvoice. Here's the proof that we've actually put our money where our mouth is and implemented a solution for this promise that we made. We're trying to close the loop on how to give back to community and all those other areas that will again, reinforce our values.”

RECOR is also now using their carbon reduction efforts as part of their content strategy, sharing their journey on LinkedIn, their website, and other platforms to inspire their professional network. “We’re planning to roll out a lot of content on our blog and LinkedIn to get the message out there, showing how RECOR is growing and how we’re making an impact,” said Caitlyn.

As Mark Poynter emphasized, “CarbonInvoice was the solution to a policy outcome we were trying to achieve.” For RECOR, the partnership with CarbonInvoice has reinforced their commitment to sustainability while fostering growth and trust across their client base.

“For us, coming to work and thinking that, hey, we work for a company that has just planted 170 trees is really tangible. It’s important for our team to feel that we’re part of something bigger, especially when we think about the future for our children.”
